Denim on Denim

Happy Saturday everyone!

I thought Spring was upon us, but it's actually really cold in Charlotte today. My look today is one of my favorites. Denim on denim. It's super easy to emulate, but just make sure that your denim jeans and shirt are different shades. Makes a huge difference!

I feel like denim on denim is actually a very neutral palette and can be dressed up with a great pair of colorful heels (or leopard loafers if you are running errands around town).

Lace: A More Romantic Look

Hey guys -

I am so pumped that it is almost Friday! My look today is more "romantic" and work appropriate. Target has recently been getting in some amazing pieces. A lot of floral, lace and chambray! Great staple pieces for the spring. I found this top a few weeks ago for $22.99. Great deal!

Sorry for not finding the exact replica of my cardigan. It's about 4-5 years old! I do want to point out that Loft is having a 40% off sale! I just stocked up on work basics and you may find something similar to this cardigan.

My Tory Burch wedges are my go-to shoes for when I want to remain dressy but don't want to wear high heels or flats. They are incredibly comfortable and well worth the $265 price tag (although I would wait till Friends and Family sales to purchase)

I wear my Banana Republic Sloan Pants everywhere. As a petite person, I really hate flared pants! They completely drown my look and are not flattering on me at all. These pants are a tad stretchy and look so tapered and put together for work. I own them in almost every color they offer. It's also rare to find petite clothing that fits me well, but Banana Republic masters that.

Hope everyone is as excited for the weekend as I am!

Pastels for Spring!

Super sorry that I have been incredibly MIA! I had a small vacation to Los Angeles and was too busy enjoying the city and didn't have much to post!

It's getting so much warmer recently and my outfit reflects just that. Vince Camuto makes these amazingly comfortable caged heels which are perfect for Spring! They are actually on sale for $79.95, which I consider a steal. The heels are a casual height and can be worn around town.

I'm going back to the West Coast next week, so I can't wait to start wearing more sandals, pastels and neons!

Gingham and Sneakers

Shoes  Vans: White Slip-on Sneakers (big kids sz 4)

Is any other location around the country suffering from fickle temperature? I swear it's hot and cold every other day! I have been sick for weeks now.

Anyways, after watching Cinderella (which was amazing and true to the actual movie) last night I came home to a package from Asos. Gingham is so in this spring and pairing it with white sneakers makes it double trendy! I bought this dress in a size 0 and it honestly fits like a glove. I am a little short, so I may need to get the dress hemmed a bit so it looks like a true midi dress. However, heels solve that problem as well.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. It's raining here, so it's Netflix for me!

Sweater  Target: Merona Camel Sweater (similar)

I think I have been wearing leggings every day this week. They are just so comfortable! Camel and black is a classic combination that literally matches with everything. Since its 50 degrees today and rainy, my anorak coat and blanket scarf kept me extra warm.

I love finding a great sale, and I ending up getting this great Marc Jacobs tote for $230. What a steal! I highly recommend to keep checking your favorite websites for deals. They really do change daily.

Casual Work Week

Cardigan  Banana Republic: Black Cardigan (similar)
Shoes Vans: Slip-Ons (kids sz 4)

I am obsessed with my Vans! Since I fit into a big kids sz 4 (women sz 6 equivalent), I keep wanting to buy more!  Right now I have the blue and white ones. White sneakers are so on trend right now, especially paired with distressed denim and dresses (during the warmer months). I love my Chuck Taylors, but they keep nipping on the back of my ankles. :-/ These slip-ons are pain free and highly fashionable! Since Vans have been worn for years, I doubt they will ever really out of style. It's a great staple piece for any wardrobe.

Shirt  Burberry Kids: Tulisa Tee (sz l4)

What can I say, I love buying designer duds in children sizing. If you're petite, I highly recommend it! For timeless brands (such as Burberry), clothing is about half the price.

Recipe: how make your own tomato sauce for chili

My boyfriend and I have been on a natural kick lately (well mainly him... I can not give up potato chips!) We decided to make a typical turkey chili but thought it would be good idea to make our own tomato sauce instead of using cans. There are just so many preservatives and chemicals in them that it doesn't make sense to keep using cans. Granted, we are still using canned beans, but we are taking this one step at a time!

Recipe

5-6 of your favorite dried Mexican chilis
2 cups of water
10 tomatoes (vine ripe sized)
1 garlic clove
1 tsp of salt
1 tsp sugar

Directions

Rehydrate the Mexican Chilis in boiling water for about 20 minutes.

Meanwhile, finely dice 4 of the tomatoes, and put aside. The remaining 6 should also be roughly chopped to be put in the blender.

Once the chilis are done, add them to the blender with the tomatoes, salt and sugar. Blend. Add water if need be.

The recipe is for two packages of ground turkey, but add more tomatoes if you want more sauce. We prefer our chili chunky so we don't add as much. Add 1 tbs cacao powder to the actual chili for more depth. If you want it to be sweeter, add more sugar.

50 Shades of Blue

Purse  Tory Burch: Robinson Tote (similar)
Earrings  Baublebar: Crystal Earrings (similar)

This may be one of my favorite outfits yet! Pastels are all the rage for spring, and I love mixing pastels colors with white. I bought this sweater on sale recently from Piperlime, and the XS fits perfectly with my petite 5'1'' frame. I really think the different shades of blue add depth to the outfit.

What Farah Wore: 3.5.15

Necklace  Loft: Statement Necklace (on sale)

Can you spot the leopard umbrella? Great for the rainy weather and only $7.99 from Marshalls. I couldn't find the exact sweatshirt from Loft online, but you can buy the similar one I listed -- more springy (or go into the actual store for the one I wore.... I saw a few last weekend). I love an all black ensemble with a pop of pattern or color. It may be the New York mind in me.

Recipe: Pickled Red Onions and Radishes

So it's officially Taco Sunday at our home. Particularly, "Barbacoa Sundays". My boyfriend has been obsessed with rehydrating chilis to make sauces, so we just eat this all the time now! I have posted the recipe on multiple occasions, but this time we decided to pickle red onions and radishes for a nice garnish. I'll tell you now, it's amazing. The spiciness of the beefs with the bitterness of the pickled vegetables really provide a great juxtaposition of taste.

Recipe

1 medium red onion, sliced different sizes (mostly thin)
6 radishes, sliced thin
1 cup vinegar
1 cup water
2 tbs salt
2 tbs sugar
5-6 black peppercorns
1 habanero (optional)
1 garlic clove, roughly chopped
3 cups of hot water

Mix everything but the onions and radishes in a large mason jar. Put the onions and radishes in a colander and dump the hot water on it. Then put them in the mason jar. Refrigerate over night for best results.
